Okay so we are very excited to be updating mybattalion, most likely over this weekend, maybe tomorrow night. There are some improvements coming and we are pumped up to release them. So stay tuned. We will be offline for an hour or so while the updates are taking place.

So I have been tweaking the website a bit. When we first rolled out mybattalion we did so coming from a very broad idea of what we wanted it to be. We just wanted to see if we could do it. We wanted to fire off this pet project and control everything from the content to the marketing and creation of a brand. There were no other tools like mybattalion available when we launched in early 2009. That has since changed, weekly I see new “gaming social networks” coming into existence. At first I was a bit irked as I see names I recognize on the list of creators/founders etc, but after awhile I enjoyed seeing what was around the corner. There are a number of impressive competitors out there some of which I think…rather I know have spent a substantial amount of time and money crafting their website, more so than we could currently afford to do.
Anyway back to the point. When we launched we knew what we had to be not what we were. Now that we have kind of found our home we are focusing on what we want mybattalion to be. There are numerous news sites out there for this content, we try to keep up with that, but it is not what we are. It has made some people anxious and think that the site is slowing down. Well in that aspect yes it is. We don’t have the time to regurgitate the information all over the web that is sent to us, nor do we have the time to dig thru thousands of forum posts. I am sorry we just need to move away from that model. The community which we have spent a lot of our time and money developing tools to share themselves with are going to have to take the reins on this.
mybattalion is about the users, their content, their images, their questions. That is what we want it to be and that is what it will be. Our focus is on improving the tools our community has to share information across a niche interest, not information gathering.
That being said there are some very cool updates coming in the next year, and I expect to see an explosion in the site when our…product(s) truly drop.
I look forward to seeing those of you going at adepticon and maybe we can knock back a few beers and throw some dice.
Thanks all for you continued support!
Well quite a bit has been going on lately. Not only have I had some interesting personal matter crop up but we have been putting together a campaign with the hobby talk hq. The final product is much simpler than I imagined, but time being what it is really limited what could be done. This has been a pretty quick turn around time for a piece of software built from scratch. There is a lot that can be expanded upon and I am looking forward to tweaking this design and improving upon it as I am sure we will want to do this again in the future.
There are a few loose ends to tie up but for the most the campaign is done, I will be working this weekend to expand out the administrative side of the project but you guys won’t be seeing that anywho.
After that we really do have projects stacked to the ceiling but there will be more on that later.
We are just now beginning development on the mybattalion product suite. We will initially release for windows, sorry mac lovers (I am a mac lover and we are still going to be releasing for windows first…they’ve just got us outnumbered).
We are very excited about what we have planned, our first two projects are a tournament organizer and an army list creations / management system.
Big thing about both of these tools…is they will be free. Actually we are quite proud of our business model, we will offer two versions of the software, a yearly subscription based fee which will be much cheaper than the current solutions, or an ad supported solution.
Anywho don’t want to release to many details at this point but we are pumped to officially be beginning development.
Okay so I have been on vacation this week, from work and the website (really its the first vacation from mybattalion I have taken since it was created). Sooo things have been slow on the content side of things. I have been getting some paper work done on this side of things. However I have been catching up on my podcasts and hobby time which I have been sorely neglecting. My white scars are just about done just have to build the scout bikes I picked up from phil over at thebrokenforge.com awesome prices and epic new store. But anywho gonna get the site updated.
Okay so one of the things we have been asked about and are about to deliver on is mybattalion merchandise. I have a meeting with a local printer about t-shirts/mugs/mousepads and we have already ordered custom dice from chessex. We will be launching the mybattalion store within the next month to facilitate the sale of this loot. But check it out I am very pleased with the custom dice at this point.
One of many things we have been working on quietly over the passed few months is a custom advertising module. This will help automate (within reason) the purchase of mybattalion.com ads and sponsorships. Not only will it allow for a smoother experience then our current email chains, but it will also allow advertisers to view their statistics securely, reup for an upcoming month, blind bid on ad locations, submit new banners, and a whole bunch of nice back end stuff for us. Look for this guy to be kicking off with majority functionality in the next 30 days.
Just want to let all you reviewers know a new batch of black library books were received this week and they are heading out the door on tuesday.
Hello All,
We have launched our developer blog. You guys can come here to check out what we are working on behind the scenes. The days it looks like the site is slow and we miss news updates….trust me theres a good reason…the gears are always turning behind the scenes.
